The right satellite connections provide Outstanding picture and sound
Satellite connections provides both best picture and sound quality on any video and audio equipment. No matter if you have a Directv, dish network, bell Express Vu, Star Choice or Free to Air Receiver, they all are connected the same away. Except when you are connecting to a HDTV.
There are 6 different ways you can connect a satellite receiver to a TV set:

1.
Satellite cable:
This is the easiest but the poorest satellite connection you can get. Why? This connection provides you between 200 to 250 lines or resolution. Please remember, the more lines of resolution, the better the quality picture.
2.
Video cords/Patch Cords:
The second best way to connect your satellite system is using video cords or patch cords. These cables provides better quality picture since it separates both picture & sound in three separate cables (one for picture & two for sound.) The resolution for these cables is in the range of 300 to 350 lines of resolution.
3.
S-Video/Super Video cable:
This cable separates the white and black colors providing up to 400 lines of resolution. This cable does not give you sound. Therefore, you have to use dual rca cables for sound. Please be aware that S-Video is not a satellite connection that provides HDTV.

4.
Component video:
Component video cable uses three cables for picture quality. It can be used for composite video picture or High Definition quality picture. Composite video picture provides you up to 500 lines of resolution. This is mainly used for DVD or FTA receivers like the pansat 3500S or Coolsat 5000/6000 serials. Now, if you have a high definition receiver, then Component video delivers the best in quality picture. It will provide you with between 480i to 1080i lines of resolution. So far, this the best quality picture in the market now. Be aware, 1080i is provided if and only if you have a receiver which is high definition and the TV program you are tuning is broadcasted in true High Definition. Otherwise, the resolution is 480i. Still, far superior than your regular video or s-video cable. Component Video is divided in three (Blue, Green and Red.) Once again, you get only sound to it. Thus, you must connect RCA cords to get sound (Same as using S-video.)
5.
DVI Cable:
The lastest satellite receivers in the market, HDTV receivers have this connection called DVI (Digital Video Interface.) This connection delivers outstanding HDTV picture only. Once again, there is no sound, though. Therefore, you have to connect Patch cords or RCA cables.
6.
HDMI cable
HDMI stands for High-Definition Multimedia Interface. HDMI is the first one to introduce uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface using one single cable. Not every single HDTV Satellite Receiver have this connection in it. In fact, Personal Video Recorders with High Definition capability have this connection. Same goes with Televisions. So, before you get into spending money for this cable, check out that both Satellite Receiver and TV have this connection in them.
