Free to air satellite LNBs are used to pick up Any wild feed channels From accross the Globe
Free to air satellite LNBs are used mainly for KU-Band. These LNBS pick up any free to air channels from Across the Globe. Depending where you are located, you need the proper size of dish to pick those wild feed channels. The following picture shows how a fta satellite LNB and dish looks like:

As you can see from the picture above, the LNB looks like a DSS lnb. However, they are not the same. This LNB, FTA LNB, is for KU-BAND or fta purposes. Normally, you will see a logo or sticker specifing that. Also, you can see an example of the dish size need it to pick up any fta satellite. This is one example of many different satellites in the market. So, please, don't think this is the only one.
The two most popular Satellites, for FTA, are
Galaxy 10R
and Intelsat 5. Galaxy 10R gives you a few English channels including American Networks and some Spanish Channels. Intelsat 5 provides you with a wide variety of international channels. The mostly are from Iran, China and some from Afganistan.
Be aware you can use ANY type or brand name of fta satellite receiver, since it, is a free public broadcast. Also, you have to know, since the funds are limited to broadcast free channels, you don't access to a tv guide as you are familiar in pay subscription satellite systems.
