Factory reset cleans the satellite receiver

Factory reset is the last option to try when everything fails on your receiver to work properly. This procedure is not written in any satellite manual at all, since it is used by satellite technicians. However, I feel, as satellite receiver owner, you should know all the procedures in how to get your system working as before. One warning, if you do, this procedure, more likely, you will either lose all channels or wipe out all pre recording programming, assuming you have a hard drive.

Depending what system you own, there a different procedure for each one. Here they are:

Dish Network & Express Vu Factory Reset Procedure.

The following procedure clears the main satellite receiver information. The good news is that, you won't lose any channels at all. In other words, after 5 to 10 minutes of doing the following procedure, you channels will come up as normal as before. However, if you have PVR or DVR receiver, there is chance you might lose all the shows pre recorded in the hard drive. Since, there are so many models of satellite receivers for both dish network and bell Express Vu, I will describe the factory-reset procedure with both numbers and written labels.

Step #1: Locate & press the menu button on your satellite remote control.
Step #2: : Press #6: This option is called system setup.
Step #3: : Press #3: This option is called Diagnostics
Step #4: : Now you are there, you have to press the following buttons in sequence (one at the time.) Before you do it, make sure, you find out where each button is located.

If you have done it properly, you should see a message that says:

"Non-Volatile memory has been corrupted. it will be cleared after pressing the front panel power button or by removing AC power from the receiver."

Step #5: Press Okay and Unplug the receiver from the wall. Leave for about 10 seconds and plug it back in.

After doing this procedure, your receiver should be working back to normal.

Star Choice Remote Control Factory Reset Procedure.

In order to perform a factory reset for Shaw Direct / Star Choice receivers, you have to do the following procedure:

Step #1: Locate & press the OPTIONS button on your satellite remote control.
Step #2: : Press #6, 4, 7, 9, 8 9. After you press these combination of numbers, you will get a hidden menu.
Step #3: : Select FACTORY_RESET.
Step #4: : Select CONFIRM.

After, doing this factory_reset, let the receiver turn back on. Then, you have to phone: Shaw Direct, to get, channel up once again. As you probably, know, its number is 1 888 554 7827
