C band History
c band satellite systems are the godfather's of all satellite tv systems. The initial use for it were for comunication purposes in NASA, Government & Military projects. The most popular size of C-Band dishes have been 12, 10 and 6 foot. Normally, there are two kinds of it mesh and solid metal. Due to its size, the C Band dish is being called BUD. This stands for Big Ugly Dish.
At the begining, customers would pay as much as $10,000 US to get thousand of channels around the world. But as time goes by, channels started to be encrypted. Thus, people started to subscribe through a Satellite broker companies. Also, the free channels have changed to digital. Thus, there is no many English channels to watch anymore.
What's Good & Bad about C-Band
Just like any system, there are advantages and disadvantages about BUD. The advantanges are: customers can get international channels and wild feed channels that normally are not available in the local satellite or cable companies. Also, you can subscribe to individual channels or small channels bundles. In other words, your cost is less than cable or small digital satellites.
The disadvantage are: as time goes by, channels are changing to digital format. Thus, less channels are available for C-Band. In otherwords, there are much selection for channels, specially if you are a movie or sport lover. Futhermore, you require a larger dish.
The Future of C-Band
But, do not think, C-Band is dead. It is not, as time goes by, a new evolution of C-Band is available now. A new digital format is available for those people with the C-Band Systems. This is what we call
